    back from prague and london!

january 25 was my last posting? how lame am i??

i traveled to prague on 6/10 (arriving 6/11) and spent until 6/16 in that wonderful city. the prague quadrennial takes place there every for years (as in QUADrennial) and our design and technology students designed and built a great display for part of the USA student exhibit. there were national exhibits from over 60 countries. i was totally unprepared for how much i was blown away by the design work shown by countries from all over the world!

i took 700 pictures (literally) in prague, someday i'll even get them off the  memory card and onto the computer and into photo bucket and onto this site! most of my pictures are of architecture, it is a sincerely gorgeous city. i had visited in 1994 with drew but only for 2 days. this time, i got to walk all over and see much more. i toured the national theatre and also the estates theatre, when mozart conducted the premiere performance of his opera don giovanni. they were both awesome.

from prague i went to london! i can't believe i had never been there. i met up with an old roommate from seattle, emily, who had been living and teaching at an international school in windsor. as in windsor castle. it is also right down the street from runnymede, so we went there, too. i spent 2 days there w/ her and we also went to pooh corner, leeds castle and had a wonderful time.

i took the train to london for 4 days there. i love that city! i visited many, many sites and walked all over. i loved the tower of london, westminster (sp?) abbey, national gallery, tate modern, globe theatre and just being there in general! the only drawback: $1 equals 2 GB pounds. ouch.

i returned friday 6/22 and am teaching a class this week to 14 - 17 year olds as part of the US Performing Arts Camp that is offered by our dept. every summer. it is really great. i asked the 14-15 year olds if they knew who sam shepard was. blank stares. so i determined that i need to spill as much info to these kids as i can about our business and how to prepare themselves. of course many of them want to be actors. even more reason to start learning as much as possible now! one of them even said that her high school drama t.d. will not let the girls build scenery. this, of course, got me going.

    more soon, promise!
